TREATMENT OF CONGENITAL DIAPHRAGMATIC HERNIA


  

The process of CDH management and treatment involves:

 

•   Antenatal diagnosed babies

•   After birth the newborn baby is stabilized with assisted ventilation if required.

•   When the baby is on optimum ventilation support and stable surgery is planned.

 

Babies diagnosed at later age:

Once baby/ child is treated for the respiratory infection and stable surgery is planned.

 

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia surgery:

 

1)         Getting the intestine back to the abdominal cavity

2)         Closure of the diaghragmatic defect with or without mesh.

 

This can be done through Open Surgery from chest or abdomen or through Minimal Access technique by Thoracoscopy.

 

Thoracoscopy provides early recovery and lesser chest deformity post surgery.
